Broken Mirrors
She stood before the broken mirror
Shattered pieces fell like rain
Her clenched fists oozed red
Yet she felt no pain
The distorted figure in the glass
Seemed most accurate to her true self
For this is how she appeared
Ugly and ruined
In her corrupt mentality
The woman she sees
Loves in a child’s nightmare
Disfiguration of the body
Accompanied by asymmetrical lines
An out of control hunger
Deeper than her appetite
A yearning for closure
That would never come
The laughing and taunting
Revives hate for mankind
She closes her eyes tight
Music fills her ears
Her fists release their squeeze
The body descends to a calmer state
She lets go
She opens her eyes
To stand before a fixed mirror
Beauty beams from its surface
A smile controls her lips
An asymmetrical design
Reversed in her eyes
Made perfect by her own judgment
Her self-love is eminent
She is timeless with beauty
Irregular to most, but
To her, she is most adored
And forever treasured
Discussion:
The poem starts out with a woman who stares at herself in the mirror, it's obvious she broke the mirror because of what she saw as her reflection. She saw something that was fat and disgusting. She then closes her eyes and allow herself to let go of what she despise about herself. With positivity, she is able to to see someone beautiful in her reflection rather than something gross.
