Rejection

Rejection

He was all that I needed
Stars perfectly aligned
For a moment like this
He was molded and crafted
Like Michelangelo’s David
With fire in his hair and
Gems in his eyes
An interior so delicate and beautiful
Yet bold and defensive
His child-like spirit
Transfers me to better days
He is all my dreams
Compressed as one

But in his eyes
I am fit as unworthy
The key to his happiness
Far out of my reach
Unattractive and withdrawn
Raises doubt in his mind
He pulls away
From the grotesque being
Standing before him with sadness
The rejection is painful
It tears down the little hope
Locked within my heart
My love evaporates, never to return

Poem Discussion:
The writer has experienced rejection from someone she truly liked and found perfect. She compares his beauty to the infamous statue David by the article Michelangelo. After she is rejected, she feels that her ability to love has evaporated and she will never be able to love again.
